Glazing with Oil Paint: An introduction

This oil painting demo is aimed at novice to intermediate painters, or anybody who would like to review some basics. It is an introduction to glazing with transparent layers of colour. It includes a detailed explanation, colour mixing and some colour theory.

This is the initial under-painting. This is the monochromatic version of the finished painting.

2. The second image illustrates the second layer of glazing process. The first layer begins with the lighter colour which in this case was tones of red. After that layer is dry, I begin adding the layer of blue.  Notice that the grey under-painting affects the colours by making them appear more muted.
